I agree with Jillian Hampton's letter May 13. Art is and should be considered an important part of education. When driving down the highway and you see a sign or billboard with a bunch of letters or numbers on it, few if anybody pays any attention to it, but if it is a beautiful picture of art, everybody notices. Art rejuvenates the mind and makes one think. We don't have money to educate our kids and are closing down schools. But we have the money to hire coaches and instructors for golf, bowling and other sports.
Our country spends more money on "so called" education, more than the rest of the world combined, yet we rank down on the list, only the 23rd smartest. Something is wrong with that picture.
