Monster Sound Entertainment, a mobile DJ and karaoke business, has added a new component.
Owner Kurt Lentz now has a photo booth, reminiscent of old-time arcade booths, available for special rentals.
"Our customers basically asked for it," Lentz said.
One of the few available for rental in the area, Monster Sound Memory Machine is made of stainless steel and prints photos instantly.
Lentz felt the Memory Machine was an investment worth making.
Now, people holding parties or other events and making use of Monster Sound Entertainment's services, can capture memories as well.
"We just got it and have multiple bookings coming up," Lentz said.
The photos can be put in scrapbooks and can be made available on CD's, he noted.
Lentz started Monster Sound in 2001.
He got acquainted with DJ work as a teenager while working at Great Skate in Montoursville.
Later, he did part-time work for mobile DJs in the area.
"We do music for pretty much anything," Lentz said.
His business keeps him in demand for weddings, graduation parties, dances and various venues in the area.
Summer is probably his busiest time, but it's never slow for his business.
"A lot of people do Halloween parties," he said. "Then there's Christmas and then Valentine's Day. It never really tails off to where there is nothing going on."
He gets a lot of return customers and ends up doing many of the same events year after year.
Lentz said it's a fun business.
"I don't consider it work. It's more of a passion," he said. "What other business can you do when you are entertaining others?"
Jessica May helps with the business and specializes in photography.
She photographs a lot of the weddings for which Lentz gets booked.
Customers can utilize all three of Monster Sound's services - the DJ or karaoke entertainment, the Memory Machine, and the photography.
"We offer them as a package at a discount," Lentz said.
Lentz doesn't do a lot of advertising, but depends mostly on word of mouth.
He doesn't even have a website for his business.
If he is unable to schedule a potential customer for a particular date, he's always happy to refer them to other DJ services in the area.
"I have good rapport with other DJ's," he said. "There's more than enough business."
The down economy of recent years hasn't hurt his business either.
"I couldn't be more pleased," he said.
