Priset goes to trial without a jury

WELLSBORO - There will be no jury hearing Matt Priset's criminal homicide case next Monday.

Tioga County Court President Judge Robert E. Dalton Jr. will hear the case against Priset beginning at 9 a.m. in the main courtroom, according to Tioga County Court administrator Nancy Clemens.

"Both sides agreed to having a judge hear the trial, so it should be shorter (in duration) because there will be no jury selection," she said Monday.

Priset faces charges of criminal homicide stemming from the death of Clinton Perry, 28, in Perry's home at 41 Wolf Run Road Jan. 25, 2011.

Following a mental health evaluation in Torrance and a subsequent competency hearing in Tioga County last June, Priset was found competent to stand trial.

The trial originally was set for Feb. 27, but was rescheduled at the request of Tioga County District Attorney George Wheeler. Priset remains jailed at the Tioga County Prison without bail.
