Williamsport Sun-Gazette

John G. Manning, 64, a resident of Williamsport, died Saturday June 16, 2012, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.

John was born in Williamsport on July 13, 1947, a son of Walter "Bud" H. and Laura Derr Manning.

He was a self-employed contractor and an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting and fishing, John enjoyed his trips out West with his friends. He was also very active with the many activities at St. Boniface Catholic Church. His greatest joy was helping family and friends and was always willing to set aside what he was doing in order to help someone. Even those he didn't know as he was an organ donor.

John and his wife, the former Joan Haefner, would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this October 14.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are his daughters, Erica and Melissa, both of Hoboken, N.J.; siblings, Nell (Arthur) Gilmore of Gainsville, Va., Walter (Cheryl) Manning of Memphis, Tenn., Stephen (Sally) Manning of South Williamsport and Lisa (Ken) Fetters of Albuquerque, N.M.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 9:30 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church, 326 Washington Blvd., Williamsport, with Msgr. Stephen D. McGough officiating. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations may be made to First Community Foundation of PA for the benefit of Rider Park, 330 Pine St., Suite 400, Williamsport, PA 17701 or The American Heart Association, P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693.
