When city police Cpl. Damon Hagan nabbed fugitive Jamel Nafis Cooley on a bench warrant Tuesday night, the 19-year-old city man allegedly had on him five small bags of marijuana, police said.
Cooley, whose last known address was 1100 Park Ave., was taken into custody in the 600 block of Campbell Street about 6:15 p.m. He automatically was committed to the Lycoming County Prison.
On Wednesday morning, Cooley was arraigned before District Judge James G. Carn on Old Lycoming Township police charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.
The charges stem from Cooley allegedly punching Kevin Young several times in the face after Young caught him dumping garbage on private property in the 100 block of Wright Road in Hepburn Township on May 4, police said. Young's nose was broken in the assault, police said.
Cooley was recommitted in lieu of $12,500 bail.
He was brought before Carn a second time on Wednesday about 4:30 p.m. when he was arraigned on Hagan's charges of possession with intent to deliver marijuana, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was recommitted in lieu of an additional $25,000 bail.
