A mother faces charges after bringing her 4-year-old son, a 14-year-old-girl, and another female along with her to allegedly steal items from the Kmart store in Loyalsock Township.
Christie Lynn Snyder, 26, of 2217 Riverside Drive, South Williamsport, faces felony charges of corruption of minors and felony retail theft, after store security noticed the group acting suspiciously and called law enforcement Friday afternoon.
State police responded and were informed by store security employee Kelly Hooker that the three females with a small child were concealing merchandise inside two purses in their shopping cart.
Police allege "the child was seated inside the ... cart," and the woman pushing the cart, who later was identified as Snyder, would hide merchandise as it was handed to her.
The group did purchase water at the register, according to police, but failed to pay for the hidden merchandise.
When the group went to leave, Hooker confronted them and told them they had to go back and pay for what they'd taken, but they allegedly ignored her, got into a vehicle and drove away, according to the affidavit.
Hooker gave police with vehicle's license plate number, and police were tracked down the three females and young boy and brought them to headquarters.
When searched, they were found to have stolen baby clothing, baby items, over-the-counter medication, and jewelry, according to court records.
Snyder was arraigned before District Judge James H. Sortman on June 22.
She remains incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 bail.
