A local man faces charges after allegedly beating his wife and stepdaughter at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

David Clare Ault, 54, of 9009 Route 405, Montgomery, faces charges of simple assault and harassment.

When officers entered the home, they first noticed that Pamela Esaias, Ault's's stepdaughter, was bleeding from a cut on her lower lip, according to court records.

Police were told that Ault had been arguing with his wife, Ruta, and began punching her in the face and mouth.

Esaias told him not to hit her mother, according to an affidavit, and Ault allegedly grabbed her and began punching her in the face and mouth.

The stepdaughter tried to get away, but Ault allegedly followed her and punched her in the mouth two more times, according to court records.

The accused was arraigned before District Judge James H. Sortman and is incarcerated in lieu of $7,500 bail.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled before District Judge Jon E. Kemp at 10 a.m. Friday.
