South, Newberry Minor Baseball advance

South Williamsport used a 4-run fifth inning to distance itself from Old Lycoming and win its opening round game of the District 12 Minor Baseball tournament on Monday. Gannon Guerrisky had a home run while Luke Winner went 2 for 3 to lead South Williamsport's offense.

Derek Gehr had a walkoff single that drove in two runs to give Newberry a 6-5 victory over Montoursville. Gehr ended the game going 3 for 4 while Andrew McCann and Jacob Clements each had two hits in the win. Newberry faces South Williamsport on Saturday in the next round.

In Major Baseball, Colby Willits went 3 for 3 while Koby Peacock, Wyatt Lorson, Garrett Winner and Eli Willits each added two hits to help Nippenose defeat Jersey Shore/GSV, 10-3. Nippenose had 12 hits to Jersey Shore/GSV's three. The loss eliminates Jersey Shore/GSV from the tournament. Nippenose advances to face Montoursville today in the next round of the losers' bracket.

In Junior Baseball, Nick Yeager, Zach Fry and Adam Worburton combined on the mound to give up just two hits through five innings as the offense rolled to a 26-4 win. Alex Welch led East Lycoming's offense by going 4 for 6 with three doubles while Nate Hampton went 3 for 3 and Zach Fry 2 for 2.

In legion, three 3-run innings were enough for Jersey Shore to beat Hughesville, 9-0.
