Free Alzheimer's CARE workshops scheduled
LEWISBURG - From 6 to 8 p.m. today and on July 19 and 26, and Aug. 15 and 22, free Alzheimer's CARE workshops will be held at Home Instead Senior Care, 130 Buffalo Road, in the former creamery building.
The Alzheimer's or Other Dementias CARE (Changing Aging through Research and Education) Training Program, developed by top experts in North America and Home Instead Senior Care, offers a personal approach to help families care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease at home.
During each workshop, caregivers will learn how to manage difficult behaviors; encourage engagement; and care for themselves while caring for their loved ones.

Learn how 'food matters' in the aging process
Barb Jarmoska, owner of Freshlife Inc., will lead a Food Matters seminar from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Elder and Special Needs Resource Center, 401 Washington Blvd.
Jarmoska said she has identified nine physical changes that come with the aging process and that have the potential to negatively impact nutritional status.

Learn first aid, CPR through 2-day class
WELLSBORO - A two-day first aid and CPR course will be held 5-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital's conference room. A fee applies.
Nellie Chambers, a qualified American Heart Association instructor, will teach the course. It will address adult, child and infant first aid and CPR, offering group interaction, feedback and practice. A course completion certification card will be awarded.

Free women's health screening planned
Lycoming will hold a free heart healthy screening for women on from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the GMG-Lycoming clinic, 780 Broad St., Montoursville.
Free screenings include blood pressure, cholesterol, height, weight and body mass index. Registration is required.

'Look Good, Feel Better' program to meet
WELLSBORO - The "Look Good, Feel Better" program, a free workshop for women in cancer treatment, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 5 in the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital's '41 Room, in Pine Grove Cafe on the first floor.
The free workshop teaches women with cancer how to understand and care for the changes in skin and hair that may occur during treatment.

Musical event to raise funds for ACS
DUBOISTOWN - Music for Hope, a benefit for the American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in Hershey, will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. July 8 at the VFW, 150 Shaffer St.
Donations will be accepted at the door and the event includes auctions, raffles, 50-50 drawings, a cash bar, free food and lots of music. It is open only to adults.
According to organizers Mike and Bernie Ranck, the Hope Lodge has been a "home away from home" for many cancer patients from the Lycoming-Clinton county area. Mike Ranck was diagnosed with acute myeloma leukemia in February 2011 and spent five months at the facility, which operates mainly on donations, he said.
Learn about changes during pregnancy
WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 10 in the board room. It is titled "Physical & Emotional Changes During Pregnancy."
The class is the first in a cycle of classes, which addresses common questions and concerns of expectant parents, but classes are not sequential, and participants attend at any time during the cycle. Registration is not necessary. Walk-ins welcomed.

Heart and Soles celebrates 8th anniversary
SELINSGROVE - Every step counts in heart health, and 30 minutes of daily walking minimizes factors associated with heart disease.
To promote healthy hearts, Evangelical Community Hospital initiated Heart and Soles, a free walking program where members schedule and log their own regular walking sessions and can earn prizes when mileage goals are reached.
The Heart and Soles eighth anniversary will be celebrated from 8 to 10 a.m. July 10 at Boscov's North Court at the Susquehanna Valley Mall. A free continental breakfast will be provided, and new members can sign up or current members can renew their walking club membership.
Also free for members will be knee and hip assessments and screenings including body composition, blood pressure, blood sugar and lipid panel. A 12-hour fast is recommended for the lipid panel.
Heart and Soles members can take advantage of the following programs held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the mall's Community Zone:
