Shawn Pleffner doubled and drove in two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Auburn Doubledays a 4-3 win over the Williamsport Cross-cutters on Thursday night in the first game of a three-game series.
The loss drops Williamsport two games out of the Pinckney Division, trailing Auburn (8-3).
The Cutters took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning. Auburn's Carlos Alvarez doubled into left field for an RBI to cut the deficit to one before Pleffner's game-winning hit.
After trailing 1-0 through seven innings, the Crosscutters scored twice in the eighth to take their first lead. Logan Moore brought Mitch Walding home on a sacrifice fly. Tyler Greene then hit a home run into left field, his first of the season.
