When people ask the question "Was Jesus pro-choice?" The question is misleading. The answer therefore is misleading. Those who are skilled in the science of logic and the art of debate as I am, know that those who control the terminology control the discussion. Those who are pro-abortion have framed the debate as "choice" and "women's rights" and they are able to make it appear as though Jesus would have supported abortion or that the Bible is silent on the subject, at worst supporting abortion.
Abortion is defined as the deliberate, intentional destruction of a human life. No one, whether man or woman, has the right to decide to take the life of an innocent human being. The issue is not "choice," nor "women's rights," but innocent human life. This principle is foundational to our country. All innocent people have an absolute right to life.
The government in enabling abortion is not protecting "choice" nor "women's rights" but enabling the destruction of innocent human life. When a woman "chooses" an abortion, the object of that choice is not her body, but someone else's; namely the body of her child. The object of her choice is not her life, but the innocent life of her child.
The question on abortion should not be framed as a question of "choice" or "women's rights" but rather a question of abortion. In this way the distortion is cleared up when we directly ask "Was Jesus pro-abortion?"
Jesus most certainly was not.
Do those who advocate for abortion mean to suggest that Jesus would have had no problem if Elizabeth wanted to "choose" to abort her child---that Jesus would have said the issue is not the right of his cousin John to exist, but "women's rights?" Would Jesus have suggested that part of "women's rights" is the "right" of a woman to end the life of her child at will?
When we frame the debate as one of abortion, rather then one of "choice" or "women's rights," we see the utter absurdity of the arguments of folks like Dan Mason whose letter appeared in the Sun-Gazette.
Those of us who are pro-life will continue to defend the sanctity of human life, and we will continue to raise awareness as to the evil that abortion is. We will not cease to be a witness to the sacredness of all innocent human life. We will not cease trying to change unjust government laws which allow for the destruction of innocent human life all the while pretending the issue is "choice" or "women's rights." The issue is abortion not "choice," and not "women's rights."
