It is that time of year again, soaring temps and trapped animals in cars. I witnessed, with horror, a small white dog in a parked car, last week. The tiny dog had about a 1 1/2-inch opening of the windows but was still suffering. I took the liberty to call 911. They dispatched a police officer to come to the rescue. He was there within 10 minutes, probably less, thank God but as the officer was taking down information, the owners came out of the store and were upset, telling us that it was none of our business.
As they were arguing with us, I begged them to open the car door and let the dog out. When they finally did, I offered them a bottle of water for their dog. They refused, as they were upset with me for calling 911. They didn't care about the dog, even at that point. What is worse, is that they offered up information in regard to going to the SPCA...to look at other animals. I hope these people see themselves in this letter. The whole scenario makes me sick, but I do applaud the Williamsport police for keeping me from doing what I really wanted to do.
