Presenting the award was Tom Gouldy, president of the Tiadaghton Chapter SAR, and Dwight Woodley, Rommelt principal.

Each year, the National Society Sons of the American Revolution sponsors a poster contest for all third-, fourth- and fifth-grade elementary students. The theme of this years poster was the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which occurred March 15, 1781, near Greensboro, N.C. The American troops were led by Gen. Nathanael Greene and the British leader was Lord Cornwallis.

The battle was a pivotal victory for the Americans in that it unraveled British control of the south and led Cornwallis to Yorktown and surrender.

Posters submitted by students were judged on originality, evidence of research, artistic merit and creativity.

For 2013 poster contest participation, interested school districts should contact Gouldy at 435-0559.
