App on cell phone leads to theft arrest

Williamsport Sun-Gazette

PENNSDALE - A mother used an app on her cell phone to help lead investigators to identifying the man who allegedly stole her son's iPod, according to court records.

With the help of Kriten Lane's cell phone, police tracked down the iPod at a second-hand store in Williamsport, where the alleged thief, Kahif Rymeik Randolph, was seen on store video attempting to sell the unit, police said.

Lane's son had left the iPod momentarily in the Game Stop at the Lycoming Mall about 7 p.m. on May 15, police said. When he went back for it, it was gone, police said.

When the mother later activated the app on her cell phone which tracked the unit, that took investigators to the second-hand store where Randolph was identified on video, police said.

Charged with theft and receiving stolen property, Randolph, 19, of 520 Depot St., has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jon E. Kemp.
