Therese M. Nicknig, 86, formerly of Loyalsock Twp., died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at Valley View Nursing Center.
Therese was born in Williamsport on Aug. 7, 1925, the daughter of John and Mary Birkle Nicknig. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. She was a devout Catholic and was active in the church as a Eucharistic Minister and in running the RCIA program. Therese loved to travel and to entertain and could always be counted on for a witty comment or an unusual story.
Therese graduated from the former St. Mary's High School. Therese received the gift offered by the Alumni Association for the senior maintaining the highest average for four years of work. She lived on a farm in Loyalsock for all her adult life surrounded by her numerous pets and rescue animals including horses, chickens, ducks, dogs, cats and any strays that needed a home and some love. Therese was a lifelong business woman, working in the real estate industry, first as an employed agent and then as co-owner of the Hunter-Nicknig Agency. She remained active in the Real Estate Business until her retirement in 2000. Therese's maternal grandfather was Andrew Birkle who was a co-founder and the Vice-President of Williamsport Planning Mill Company, the Vice-President of the Williamsport Hardwood Company and the Director of the Williamsport Coal Company.

She is survived by nieces and nephews, Kurt Nicknig (Susan), of Sacramento, Calif., Maria Nicknig Stevens (John), of Carmichael, Calif., Leah Nicknig Sims (David), of Needham, Mass., Paul Nicknig (Carol), of Carmichael, Calif., John S. Wiegand Jr. (Gail), of Gillette, Wyo., Rosemary Wiegand Homan (Brett), of Williamsport, Marianne Wiegand Taylor (Paul), of Vestal, N.Y., and Joseph Wiegand (Brenda), of Trout Run; nine grandnephews, Terry Nicknig, Cody Stevens, Adam Nicknig, John Wiegand III, Joshua Wiegand, Lucas Cole, Seth Cole, Benjamin Wiegand and Greg Taylor; seven grandnieces, Marissa Nicknig Hunt, Casey Nicknig, Samantha Sims, Karalyn Sims, Jessica Wiegand, Marie Taylor and Kate Nicknig; and four great-grandnephews and nieces. A brother also survives her, James Nicknig (Marnell), of Carmichael, Calif.
Therese was preceded in death by a brother, John J. Nicknig, and a sister, Marie Nicknig Wiegand (John).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012. Rev. Michael McCormick will officiate. There will be no visitation and burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Montoursville. Crouse Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
