Dorothy Cecilia Baier, a resident of Williamsport and Valley View Nursing Center, died Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital, surrounded by her very loving family.
She was born in Williamsport on Sept. 22, 1928. She was the daughter of the late Maurice and Julia Kereski Jones. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bastress.
Dorothy attended Williamsport Schools and worked at the former C.A. Reed Co. here in Williamsport. She volunteered at the St. Anthony's Center for many years. She loved watching and rooting for Penn State Football, and especially loved Joe Pa. She always wore her Phillies baseball cap when she was rooting for her Philadelphia Phillies Baseball Team. Mom loved her Rosary and prayed it every day, and really enjoyed the Catholic Channel on TV and always prayed to the Blessed Mother. Years ago she loved her bicycle and rode 2000 miles on it riding around Brandon Park. She was always in the kitchen making homemade pies, baked beans, meatballs, and food for her husband and six children. Her husband of 34 years served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and they married in 1948. Her husband, Ambrose J. Baier died in 1982.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Michael (Sandra Jo), James (Mary Jane) and George (Margaret), all of Williamsport. Her son Joseph, of South Williamsport, and daughter Diane Russell, of Howard, Pa. Dorothy is also survived by 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Rita Cillo, of Williamsport; and a brother, George Jones, of Florida.
Dorothy was preceded in death by a daughter, Julia A. Baier, in 2005, her grandson, Joseph Ambrose Baier, in 2007, and husband Ambrose J. Baier.
A private Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Bastress and burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A. 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport or to the Senior Theology Fund for Joseph A. Baier Scholarship Fund, c/o Rev. John Manno at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Walnut Street, Montoursville. Crouse Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
