Kathleen McPhee Allen of La Plata, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at the age of 67.
Kathleen was born in Logan, Utah and received a bachelor of fine arts degree at Utah State University. In her diverse career, she was a school teacher and a human resources professional. She began teaching in Denver, Colo., and moved on to Ogden, Utah. She left teaching in 1974 to pursue a career in personnel at Nalley's Food in Tacoma, Wash., and continued her personnel/human resources career in Tucson, Ariz. She retired from her position as Director of Employment Services with Susquehanna Health Systems in Williamsport, Pa., in 2002. She returned to teaching in 2004 as a Performing Arts Teacher at Westlake High School in Waldorf, Md. She was recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Achievement Initiative for Maryland's Minority Students for her work in the Department of Theatre.
Kathleen enjoyed bowling for the Nalley's team league; singing with the Williamsport Civic Chorus; and was a volunteer board member of the Red Cross Lycoming Chapter. She was a member of International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees Union where she performed duties in wardrobe as a dresser, as well as stage electrics for performances at the Kennedy Center and other venues, as well as traveling shows. Additionally, Kathleen loved to kayak, spending many of her spring breaks or summer vacations traveling across the country to explore new waters.

She was predeceased by her parents, Charles B. McPhee Jr. and Gladys Jessop McPhee. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, James and Ashleigh Thompson of Plainfield, N.J., and her son and daughter-in-law, Bryn and Bridget Allen of Williamsport, Pa.; five grandchildren and her brothers, Norman C. McPhee of Racine, Wisc. and Jerold D. McPhee of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was formerly married to Jerry D. Allen of Williamsport for 35 years and remained friends until Jerry's death.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Kathleen's life will be held at Haywood's on the Water in Williamsport, Pa., Sunday, July 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Kate Allen Memorial Scholarship care of Westlake High School, 3330 Middletown Road, Waldorf, MD 20603.
