Shirley Engel, 76, of Williamsport, Pa., died Friday, June 29, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia.
Shirley was born Dec. 16, 1935, in Proctor, Pa., the daughter of Howard and Lucretia (Bryan) Stoner. She was a 1954 graduate of Montoursville High School.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert J. Engel; her daughter, Debra (Richard) Cocrane of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.; and her son, Michael J. Engel of Waterville, Pa. She is also survived by brothers, Roy Stoner of Carlisle, Benjamin (Katie) Stoner of Cogan Station, Guy (Sandy) Stoner of Powhatten, Va., Richard (Sandy) Stoner of Montoursville; and sisters, Jane (John) Daily of Alexandria Bay, N.Y., Nancy Hill of South Williamsport and Joyce Smith of Trout Run. Shirley is also survived by her four wonderful grandchildren, Alexandra, Timothy, Andrew and Rebekah.

Shirley worked as a cafeteria aide at Lycoming College from 1974 to 1984, and with a homemaker's help service from 1985 to 1992. She was a homemaker all of her life. She was an active member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church and a member of the Christian Mothers.
She enjoyed flowers and square dancing.
Family and friends will be received at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport, on Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2012, at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 635 Hepburn St., Williamsport. This will be followed by burial at Wildwood Cemetery, Williamsport.
