DuBoistown Borough Council hired a part-time secretary and took action on several other items during a brief meeting Thursday night.

The hiring of Kathy Weaver, who serves as borough tax collector, is to take effect immediately.

Weaver is to receive on-the-job training after beginning work.

Borough officials were unable to cite the amount of pay Weaver is to earn, but noted it will be the standard rate.

Council voted to pursue negotiations for the purchase of a backhoe from C.H. Waltz & Sons, Inc., Cogan Station.

It was agreed the purchase price would not exceed $60,000.

As part of the deal, borough officials expect to trade in a used backhoe.

It was noted that the borough is still awaiting a performance bond from the developer of a proposed housing community at the south end of Summer and Spring streets.

Council President Michael Caschera said no construction can begin by Susquehanna Builders until the bond is in place.

Council held an executive session prior to the regular meeting to consider legal matters.
