Amazing piece of information: The folks at the USDA, administrators of the federal food stamp program, are very proud of the fact that usage of the free food and food stamp programs are constantly increasing.
On another, though related, note: The National Park Service, under the auspices of the US Department of the Interior, asks National Park visitors not to feed the animals. The reason?
Because the animals will become dependent on the provisions of the park visitors and become unable/unwilling to provide for themselves, passing the behavior on to their offspring.
Does this seem to be ironic to anybody else?
