Personal liberty was dealt another blow when the Supreme Court of the United States, headed by Chief Justice John Roberts, declared that Congress can force citizens to purchase something or face punitive measures. In a decision which had to go so far as to redefine the act itself, calling the fine a tax, Congress was authorized to coerce uninsured individuals to either purchase health insurance, or face the wrath of the IRS. From a party which champions "choice" when it comes to reproductive rights (though completely ignores the rights of the baby within) has come the mandate that I as an American citizen have no choice when it comes to my own health care.
How much further will the government reach into the personal lives of its citizens? Government is already trying to limit the lifestyle choices we make, and even rewards those who purchase the politically correct "green" vehicle, but this mandate goes well beyond simple rewards and restrictions. This requirement says I must take my own hard earned assets and spend it on something which is "for my own good."
The question is not, "Does Congress have the authority to force us to take this action?" but rather "Do we as citizens want them to exercise this authority?" The only way we can stop the heavy-handed, overbearing government intrusion and control is to remove those who advocate for such control. This should be a rally cry to every freedom loving American to express their anger and exercise their right Nov. 6, voting to remove President Obama and Sen. Casey from office.
