Watching the news of the Eric Holder contempt of Congress vote, I just don't understand the Democrats who say that this is about nothing. I have heard the claims that this is purely political. Are the lives of 300 Mexicans that have died and the "many more" that Holder says will die purely political? Are the murders of a Border Patrol agent and an ICE agent purely political? Holder has changed his story every time that he's been caught in a lie and now he is withholding information so that he won't be caught in any more lies.
The biggest lie being told by the Obama administration is that Fast and Furious began during the Bush administration. They are referring to operation Wide Receiver which was shut down in 2007 and was very different from Fast and Furious. The big difference is that no deaths have been connected to Wide Receiver. Also, Wide Receiver tried to stop the weapons from actually getting to Mexico and was shut down when it was found that some of them did. Fast and Furious forbade agents from stopping the weapons from getting to Mexico and even interfered with state and local law enforcement efforts to stop them. More than 2,000 guns were escorted over the border with no attempt made to track them. Wide Receiver was done with the full knowledge of the Mexican government while Fast and Furious was never disclosed to them.
Fast and Furious was a criminal enterprise and needs to be investigated by someone other than the perpetrators. It is definitely not as some Democrats have said "about nothing". If anyone else had done this they would be serving life in prison.
