Montgomery alumni hold 107th banquet

MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery High School alumni banquet was held June 9 at the Clinton Township Fire Hall.

Polly Shrey, president, welcomed the 238 members and guests.

John Hinkle, of New Castle, Va., Class of 1962, gave the invocation.

The Class of 1962 at Montgomery Area High School recently celebrated its 50th class reunion weekend. At the annual Alumni Association banquet held June 9, the class presented the Alumni Association with a $7,019 check to its scholarship fund. This represents a record amount ever given by any 50th anniversary class. Above are John Hinkle, class president, and Polly Shrey, president of the Alumni Association.

After the dinner, Shrey conducted a business meeting.

Historian Leona Dewalt read greetings from Dorothy Buck Bingaman, Class of 1934, and from Paul Herman, Class of 1936.

Gifts were presented to Marvene Hain Fogelman, Class of 1937, for being the oldest class member present.

Three alumni scholarships of $2,500 were presented to Alesha Glass, Brittany Hipple and Sarah Wigg.

Rebecca Hite was named recipient of the Margaret Stoltz Scholarship of $725.

Hinkle presented a $7,019 check to the association for the Golden Anniversary Scholarship, and Marguerite Starr Barto, Class of 1937, gave $75 to the Golden Anniversary award in honor of her 75th reunion.

Daphne Ross, Montgomery Area School District superintendent, was given honorary membership into the association. Ross was the speaker for the evening and discussed changes within the school district and setting up a foundation.

Assuming the roles of president and vice president for the next two years are Amanda Walborn Feinberg and Joyce Munus Heiges, along with seven board members.
