Police were out over July 4 looking for motorists putting themselves and others at risk by driving under the influence eradication.
There were two DUI checkpoints in the county in conjunction with roving patrols, according to Old Lycoming Township Chief William Solomon, who heads up Lycoming County's DUI task force.
Police stopped 265 motorists at High and Oliver streets last Friday, administering field sobriety tests to 17 and arresting 12 for DUI, he said.
Two of those DUIs involved drug use, according to Solomon; and one of the arrests involved a combination of drugs and alcohol with a minor in the vehicle, Solomon said.
Under a new state law, the aforementioned driver will face additional charges for driving under the influence with a minor in the car, a first-degree misdemeanor, Solomon added.
The first offense can carry a fine of not less than $1,000 and 100 hours of community service.
Officers also issued one underage drinking citation and 17 citations for traffic violations.
