Teens sentenced for flooding campus laundry

July 12, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

A Pennsylvania College of Technology student and his guest - both from the Queens, N.Y., area - were sentenced to five years' probation and 50 hours of community service each on felony criminal mischief charges because they flooded a laundry room in a Pennsylvania College of Technology dormitory last Dec. 9.

The incident happened in the early morning hours when student Arun Sarjoo, 19, and Timothy Joshua Leekam, 19, and another male who was not charged, discussed "how funny it would be to flood the room," according to a police affidavit.

A water bottle and sock were used to plug a drain in a wash tub and the water was turned on, police said.

Water continued to flood the room until about 7 a.m. when it tripped a fire trouble alarm. Water streaming from a mechanical room was spotted by police.

In addition to probation, Sarjoo and Leekam both were ordered to pay $10,907 restitution each, according to court records.
