HUGHESVILLE - Excitement, fun and a wide variety of attractions await locals at the 142nd annual Lycoming County Fair, which begins today.
Meteorologists warn there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms most of the week, but especially from Friday to Monday, when a warm front is expected to move into the area.
"The warm front is going to bring more unstable weather, hot and muggy with a significant chance of showers or thunderstorms," said Elyse Colbert, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in State College.

"Other than that, we will have average, run-of-the-mill summer weather - muggy, with highs in the mid 80s, which is normal for this time of year," she added.
With daytime highs in the mid 80s and a heat index expected to be in the 90s, visitors will want to be sure they drink plenty of water and stay hydrated as they enjoy the variety of attractions the fair has to offer.
Admission for the fair is $5 each day. This includes the price to ride all carnival rides, as well as admission to all midway mini stage shows, and most midway main stage shows.
Spectators can enjoy thrills and spills during Double Figure "8" Racing, held at 8 p.m. Friday in the grandstand. Bleacher tickets will be $8 and grandstand tickets will be $10.
A free antique tractor pull will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. There is a 50-percent chance of showers Saturday evening, so locals may want to bring umbrellas when they enjoy the demolition derby, held at 7 p.m. in the grandstand.
Locals will want to keep that umbrella in hand when they attend the Double Figure "8" Racing Championships held at 7 p.m. on Sunday evening. More showers and possible thunderstorms are expected throughout the night.
Those with a penchant for danger will enjoy the Blaise Alexander Family Dealership Invitational Bull Riding contest, which will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the grandstand. Tickets will be $12. Though Monday night is expected to be muggy, with a low around 69, no showers are expected.
Tuesday will bring fair weather, with a high near 90 - perfect weather to watch Aaron Kelly perform at 8 p.m. in the grandstand. Tickets will be $8. Attendees should bring their own chairs for track seating.
Tuesday night is expected to be cool and clear, which should be excellent weather for the fireworks display, which will begin at about 9:30 p.m.
Wednesday at the fair will be Sunset Ice Cream Day. With purchase at any Sunset Ice Cream store, fair attendees will receive a free grandstand ticket to see The Dennis Lee Show at 8 p.m. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs for track seating.
Thursday, visitors will be able to enjoy the 4x4 Truck Pull Gas and Diesel Classes, held at 6:30 p.m. in the grandstand. Tickets will be $8.
Next Friday will be the Dale Wheeland Memorial Tractor Pull, held at 6 p.m. in the grandstand. Tickets will be $10.
Visitors will be entertained by a final round of destruction during the Championship Auto Demolition Derby, held at 7 pm. Saturday in the grandstand. Tickets will be $10.
