Mary Louise Steidle McLaughlin, 97, formerly of Cogan Station, died Friday, July 13, 2012, surrounded by her family, at Valley View Nursing Center. She and her husband, Emerson J. McLaughlin, were married nearly 40 years until his death in 1981.
Born Nov. 20, 1914, in her home in Cogan Station, she was the daughter of Michael E. and Anna Marie Hamm Steidle. She lived in her homestead for 94 years prior to her admission to Valley View.
Mary was a graduate of the former Hepburn High School and was retired from Stroehmann's Bakery. She was a member of Saint Joseph the Worker Parish in Williamsport and was a volunteer at the Fleming Parish Center. Mary was a life member and volunteer at the Hepburn Twp. Fire Co., and a member of the Blooming Grove Historical Society.
Mary was devoted to her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Michael F. Steidle and sister Mathilda B. Leslie.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John E. and Betty McLaughlin, of Cogan Station; five daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Rick Updegraff, with whom she resided, Louise and Ronald Bergen, Katharine and Kenneth Staib, Anita and Joseph Williams, all of Cogan Station, and Norma and David Winter, of Oval. There are 12 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport; the Rev. David W. Bechtel will officiate, with burial to follow at Pennsdale Cemetery, Bodines, Pa.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday evening at Crouse Funeral Home, 133 E. Third St., Williamsport.
