The Williamsport Blighted Property Review Board added more than two dozen properties to the city's blighted list during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday.
In recommending those properties to the board, city codes Administrator Joe Gerardi said progress is being made toward forcing property owners to better maintain their sites.
Board member Phil Preziosi agreed.
"There's been a tremendous amount of progress," he said.
Gerardi said the additional properties were less than he expected.
"I thought we'd find about 50," he said.
The properties were identified throughout the city during the past month.
"These properties are the worst of the worst," he said.
Property owners will be sent notices and given a timeline to take steps to improve the sites.
Gerardi said four additional properties formerly targeted by the city for cleanup are showing signs of being cleaned up.
Twenty-four properties included on the overall blighted list are under some stage of renovation.
However, the city is taking over a property at 415 High St. after its owner failed to heed warnings to clean up the site.
By law, the property can be seized by the city and sold, Gerardi noted.
In other matters, it was announced that the board will not meet during the month of August.
