Nothing solved

July 19, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. fought so hard for blacks to get equal rights and for our children to have better lives and be treated better than he and our ancestors were treated. I see the news and all of the crime is not what he fought so hard for. What a slap in his face that we do not appreciate the fight and live equally and make our way in life. Stop selling drugs, robbing, shooting, and going to jail and show Dr. King he did not die in vain. If he could fight without violence so can we!

It has to start in the home. It's up to the parents to do more to make our future better. Get your children involved in many activities. If they are too busy doing positive things there is no time for negative things. Kids should stop having kids at a young age when they don't know how to raise their own children. Stop saying its OK for your child who hasn't even become a woman yet to have a child. Get involved in their education. Education is the most important thing beside God. Stop closing Community Centers and do everything you have to do to get more recreation for these kids so that they are not hanging on the street corners and glorifying selling drugs, robbing and shooting. I truly think surveillance cameras is a great start put them in the trouble areas. It will stop them from wanting to deal drugs and commit other crimes if they know someone is watching.

The police need to get involved and patrol more often, especially when they know there is an event going on with young children going on. There is good and bad in every race, so don't treat every person of color as if they are going to rob you or harm you there are still people that have morals and respect others property and being. We also need to put God back into the family unit.
