Cutters fail to hold lead

July 18, 2012
From staff reports , Williamsport Sun-Gazette

After jumping out to an early lead, the William-sport pitching faltered and dropped the second game of the series, 7-5, to the Auburn Doubledays on Wednesday night.

Williamsport took a 5-2 lead with a four-run fourth inning, but starter Nicholas Hanson couldn't hold the lead, allowing Auburn to score three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Doubledays' bullpen would hold off the Williamsport offense the rest of the way, as Jason Smith, Robert Benincasa and Derek Self combined for 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing just three hits.

Wes Schill led Auburn, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. All but two Williamsport starters recorded hits, but the Cutters left 10 runners on base.

Roman Quinn went 1 for 3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs while Logan Moore added two hits, a run and an RBI for the Cutters.

Williamsport has dropped seven of its last nine games and now fallen eight games under .500.
