Mayor wants to freeze Bowman Field for skating, hockey

Crosscutters petition council for requirements

Mayor Gabriel J. Campana said Tuesday that Bowman Field may be used for winter ice skating and hockey team play, but there may be kinks in the proposal announced Tuesday.

The stadium is home to the Williamsport Crosscutters Single A baseball team, which sent an 11th-hour letter to members of City Council.

When that letter was made public during a public works committee meeting, some of the details in it upset Campana.

"If the Crosscutters are trying to demean the Outlaws (the proposed hockey team), that's wrong," he said.

The Crosscutters organization isn't opposed to the use of the field for hockey, but it presented three pages of suggested requirements that city solicitors will review.

Watch for the full report in tomorrow's edition of the Sun-Gazette.
