JERSEY SHORE - Firefighters and police had to pry open the doors of a vehicle after a man who may have been using heroin passed out in the drivers seat with the engine running.

Dennis Alfred Schlegel Jr., 45, of 6 Hopple Drive, faces charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, after police recovered 0.12 grams of heroin from his vehicle.

On Oct. 9, 2011, state police were dispatched to 7458 Route 220, in Woodward Township, for a report of an unresponsive man who had passed out in a vehicle. However, when police arrived on the scene, the man was awake, alert and able to identify himself as Schlegel, according to court records.

When firefighters and EMS personnel arrived, Schlegel again had lost consciousness, according to the affidavit. The doors of the vehicle were locked and Schlegel had passed out with the car in drive and his foot on the break, according to court records.

Firefighters forced entry into the vehicle, placed it in park and turned the engine off.

Police found an open bag of heroin, three unopened bags of heroin and a syringe in the cup holder of the vehicle.

Schlegel, who waived his preliminary hearing, will face a court arraignment Aug. 13 at the county court house.
