Police: Drunken Wellsboro man threatens to ‘rip off’ officer’s face

July 26, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

WELLSBORO - State police charged Kevin A. Martin, 46, of 59 Bell Road, with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia following an alleged drunken assault of a police officer on July 21.

Police were dispatched to Route 362 in Shippen Township after Martin fell down an embankment, according to documents filed at District Judge Rob Repard's office. Police found Martin unable to stand or walk without assistance.

At first, Martin refused to get into an ambulance but after he did, he allegedly put the emergency paramedic in a chokehold inside the ambulance as it traveled Route 6 on its way to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, police said.

Once at the hospital emergency room, Martin allegedly was combative with emergency room personnel and police and became verbally abusive to police, threatening to shoot and kill an officer and "rip his face off." Martin then urinated on the floor of his hospital room, continued to threaten police, then charged an officer and hit him on top of his head with his handcuffed wrists.

Martin was subdued with a Taser and afterward allegedly pulled out a glass pipe and a clear plastic film canister containing marijuana in front of police, officers said.

He was jailed on $75,000 bail and his preliminary hearing was held July 21.
