O. Luther Merrill, 90, of 1736 Brushy Ridge Road, Montoursville, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 15, 1922. in Fairfield Township, a son of Samuel H. and Laura Belle Ulrich Merrill.
Luther was a carpenter and belonged to the Carpenters Union Local No. 76 of Hazelton and was past president of the former Carpenters Union No. 691 in Williamsport. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Scout Master of Troop No. 21, started Troop No. 27 in Montoursville and led three excursions to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Luther enjoyed farming and working with his backhoe.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Florence R. Loucks, who passed away in 2000; two sons, Keith L. and Kevin D.; and brothers and sisters.
Luther is survived by a son, Clayton L. (Mary Ann) Merrill Sr. of Montoursville; a daughter, Karen M. Bush of Harrisburg; two sisters, Geraldine Johnson of Maryland and Ruth (George) Haas of Montoursville; five grandchildren, Clayton L. Merrill Jr., Christina Simon, Dale Merrill, Eric Bush and Merrill Edward Bush; and many great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Rev. Larry L. Leland officiating. Interment will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
