Andrew J. Simpler, 89, of 608 N. Arch St., Montoursville, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at The Gatehouse.
He was born Sept. 29, 1922, in St. Marys, Pa., a son of George S. and Eleanor Friedl Simpler.
Andrew was a World War II Army veteran of the European Theater, participated in five campaigns and received the French Croix De Guerre with Bronze Star. He retired from the former Schnadig Corp. in 1986 after 40 years. Andrew was a member of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church, Eugene Grafius Post No. 104 American Legion, Rolling Rock Hunting Club and Century Club of Montoursville.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, James and sisters, Dorothy Mohr and Jayne Sarginger.
Andrew is survived by his wife, the former Betty J. Gavitt, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage; a son, Stanley L. (Susan) of Harrisburg; a daughter, Janice A. (David) Bertin of Montoursville; four grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 900 Elm St., Montoursville, with Rev. David C. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Montoursville Cemetery, with Military Honors accorded by the Lycoming County Korean War Veterans. Friends may call at the church Friday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
