'Talk With The Doc' about weight-loss procedures
SELINSGROVE - A free, interactive discussion about weight-loss procedures, such as gastric bands, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Community Zone. It is intended for those who have struggled with weight gain and who have tried diet and exercise programs with little success.
The event, which is sponsored by Evangelical Community Hospital, features Dr. Christopher Motto, a board-certified bariatric surgeon at the hospital.
Breastfeeding coalition offers public event
The Lycoming-Clinton County Breastfeeding Coalition will sponsor kids' crafts at First Friday this week. As part of World Breastfeeding Week - Aug. 1 to 7 - the local coalition will have a table with a display on breastfeeding and an interactive craft activity for kids from 5 to 7:30 p.m. in the mural parking lot across from the Community Arts Center on West Fourth Street.
On Saturday, the coalition will be at the Community Health Center parking lot in the Hepburn Plaza from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Center holds community health day
The Susquehanna Community Health and Dental Center will hold a community health day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 469 and 471 Hepburn St.
The event features guest speakers, facility tours, health information, health and social service vendors, food, music, children's activities and door prizes.
The rain date is Aug. 11.
Susquehanna Health announces healthy events
Susquehanna Health will hold the following events:
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday - Susquehanna Health Family Health Fest and Kids' Health Fair, Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale. The event features free activities, health information and screenings including blood pressure, BMI, cholesterol and glucose, stroke and vision testing. Low-cost screenings including a lipid profile (requires a 12-hour fast) and A1c blood testing for diabetes will be offered for a fee. Talk with healthcare professionals and representatives from community agencies to gather the latest health and wellness information on topics from Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to first aid and sports medicine/injury prevention. Monday - Osteoporosis screening, The LifeCenter, Lycoming Mall, Pennsdale. For a fee, men and women can get a quick and painless ultrasound heel screening to measure bone density level. Call 1-877-883-4791 to schedule an appointment.
6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 - Alzheimer's Association support group meetings, Muncy Valley Hospital cafeteria. The Skilled Nursing Unit holds monthly Alzheimer's meetings the first Tuesday of each month. For more information, call Mark Britten, of Social Services, at 546-4040.
Blood donors get chance to go to Disney
WELLSBORO - Give blood at a Community Blood Bank drive and enter for a chance to win a trip for four to Disney World in Florida. Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a CBB blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Monday in the board room. Donors at any of the CBB's August drives will be entered into the drawing to win.
The trip will include airfare, hotel stay, and four park hopper passes. Full package details and official rules will be available on OurDonorsSaveLives.org beginning Wednesday.
All are welcome to donate as long as it has been 56 days since your last donation, and you are at least 17 years of age (16 with parental consent).
Donors must be in good health and weight at least 110 pounds.

Prepare for childbirth
LEWISBURG - Evangelical Community Hospital will hold the following childbirth classes:
Hello Baby - For siblings ages 2-10, 6:15-7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at Apple Conference Rooms A and B, in the rear of the hospital's dining room;
Prenatal Breastfeeding - 7-9 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Community Health Education Center.
Prepared Childbirth Refresher Class: Call the Community Health Education Center to schedule a class.
T-Dap and child seat safety clinics - Tetanus, diptheria and pertussis vaccines are free for fathers and all family household members 18 years and older of newborns delivered at Evangelical Community Hospital. Appointments are preferred. Clinics will be held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in the Community Health Education Center.

EMT classes offered
A state Department of Health emergency medical technician certification training class will be held 7-10 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and occasionally on Saturdays from Aug. 7 through Dec. 20. It is sponsored by the Lycoming-Tioga-Sullivan EMS Council.
The 130-hour course prepares people to perform complex skills such as spinal immobilization, performing patient assessments, CPR and taking vital signs. A fee applies.
