This letter is written with great concern regarding the possible closing of the Endless Winds VFD Inc. in Shunk.
For more than a year, concerns have circulated regarding a few members' egregious acts, improprieties, financial incompetence, and failure to follow standard operating procedures including inspections and insurance coverage. As of recently, the local citizens have expressed concern over the perception that the fire company is not in operation and facing permanent closure.
Given the rural areas in which we live, a fire department's response time is crutial in saving lives and property. Volunteers, members, along with strong professional leadership play an integral part in that success and help to define community. The thought of closure because of a few is unthinkable. The local citizens are owed an explanation.
