Donald E. Sorgen, 89, of Old Township Lane, Lock Haven, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 3, 2012, at Lock Haven Hospital.
He was born Aug. 23, 1922, a son of Henry J. and Jennie Helbley Sorgen. He married the former Mary Ester Henry on July 26, 1947 and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Early in life, he was employed at Woolrich and later retired from the experimental department of Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven after 30 years of employment. He was a member of the Lycoming Christian Church and a former member of the Pine Creek Preservation Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, tinkering and loved spending time with his family on Pine Creek.
Besides his wife, Mary Ester, he is survived by four grandsons, Dennis J. Jr. (Jennifer), Christopher J., David A. (Andrea) all of Lock Haven and Kevin S. (Donna) of Jersey Shore; one brother, Clair E. Sorgen of Lock Haven; two stepgrandsons, Russell P. Weaver of Salladasburg and Andrew J. Weaver (Laura) of Lock Haven; seven great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren two daughter-in-laws, Virginia L. Sorgen and Mary Jo Sorgen, both of Lock Haven.

He was predeceased by two sons, Steven E. Sorgen in 2004 and Dennis J. Sorgen Sr. in 2007. He also was preceded in death by siblings, Dorothy E. Laubscher, Edith M. Dunkleberger, Beatrice L. Stevenson, Henry J. Sorgen Jr., Helen M. Sorgen, Mary Jene Litz, Kathryn Ann Jenkins and Shirley M. Sorgen.
Relatives and friends are invited to Donald's Life Celebration on Tuesday Aug. 7, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Lycoming Christian Church, Linden, with his Pastor, Rev. Donald Dennis officiating. Burial will follow in Woodward Township Cemetery.
