6:30 p.m. today - Alzheimer's Association support group meetings, Muncy Valley Hospital cafeteria. The Skilled Nursing Unit holds monthly Alzheimer's meetings the first Tuesday of each month. For more information, call Mark Britten, of Social Services, at 546-4040.
7-10 a.m. Saturday - Blood screenings, Medical Plaza, 900 Plaza Drive, Montoursville. For various fees, residents may opt for the following screenings: general screening (lipid panel, complete blood count, CMP-blood glucose, electrolytes, BUN, creatinine, calcium, protein, albumin, liver enzymes); lipid panel (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, LDL, VLDL); cholesterol; glucose; hemoglobin A1c; TSH; PSA (prostate screening); Vitamin B12; Vitamin D. 'Dip and dance' event planned
JERSEY SHORE - A dip-n-dance event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Jersey Shore Pool to benefit Relay for Life of Jersey Shore.
Jersey Shore Hospital is organizing the swimming and dancing event. Fees apply for each participant in every group.
Live deejay music and other entertainment will be available, and hot dogs will be sold.

Class teaches how to eat healthy on a budget
SELINSGROVE - From 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Community Zone of the Susquehanna Valley Mall, Evangelical Community Health Education will hold a discussion on how to eat healthy on a budget.
The program will provide nutrition education, different approaches to stretch a food budget, and recipes with healthy, budget conscious food choices.
It is open to the community and no registration is required.
The discussion is sponsored by Evangelical hospital's Heart and Soles walking program. Upcoming free programs held at the same time and place include:
Flirty Girl Aerobics class, Sept. 11;

Free blood sugar screenings offered
SELINSGROVE - Community Health Education at Evangelical Community Hospital will hold a free blood sugar screening from 8-10 a.m. Aug. 14 at the Susquehanna Valley Mall Community Zone. Blood pressure screening also will be available.
A pre-diabetes education class will be held 1-3 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Community Health Education Center on Route 15 in Lewisburg. During the free class, pre-diabetes is defined with information on how to slow or reverse the progress of the disease. Other discussions include insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, diet, exercise and general health guidelines. To register, call 522-4411.
Free Expectant Parents class scheduled
WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital will hold a free Expectant Parents class from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 14 in the board room. The class is titled "Labor Preparation and Comfort Techniques."

Free Alzheimer's CARE workshops scheduled
LEWISBURG - From 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 15 and 22, free Alzheimer's CARE workshops will be held at Home Instead Senior Care, 130 Buffalo Road, in the former creamery building.
The Alzheimer's or Other Dementias CARE (Changing Aging through Research and Education) Training Program, developed by top experts in North America and Home Instead Senior Care, offers a personal approach to help families care for seniors with Alzheimer's disease at home.
During each workshop, caregivers will learn how to manage difficult behaviors; encourage engagement; and care for themselves while caring for their loved ones.

Better Breathers Club meets soon
WELLSBORO - The Better Breathers Club, a free support group for people with lung disease, will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 16 in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital's board room.
The instructor will be Carol Lee Ames, cardiopulmonary therapist, and the guest speaker is Stacy Knipe. The group meets the third Thursday of each month. No registration is necessary.

WELLSBORO - Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital presents "Linen World," a new vendor selling high quality throws, towels, linens and kitchen ware from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 22.
Twenty percent of the proceeds will support the hospital's Auxiliary.

Register now for 11th annual Run/Walk for Your Heart
The 11th annual Run/Walk for Your Heart 5K will be held Sept. 3. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Williamsport Regional Medical Center office building, 699 Rural Ave., and the race begins at 9.
Participants can save $7 if they register before Aug. 25. Proceeds benefit Susquehanna Health's Heart & Vascular Institute.

'Life After Loss' group support to begin
LEWISBURG - Aug. 31 is the deadline to register for "Life After Loss," a six-week educational bereavement group that will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 5 through Oct. 10, at the Evangelical Community Health Education Center on Route 15.
The program will help participants learn coping techniques to deal with grief and loss. Attendance at all six classes is encouraged and the group is open to those ages 18 and older. Facilitated by Christine Gessner, of Evangelical Hospice, the program is most effective for those who have been living with loss for longer than six months.
A minimum of six and maximum of 20 people may register by calling Hospice at 522-2955.
