When city police officers attempted to arrest Marco Kevin Ward for smoking a marijuana cigarette in the 700 block of West Edwin Street on Saturday night, he put up a struggle and allegedly tried "desperately" to grab a knife that was in his pants pocket, investigators alleged in an affidavit.
Even after an officer used his stun gun, Ward, 28, continued struggling in an attempt to flee about 8:30 p.m. A knife fell out of Ward's pocket and the officer kicked it away, police said. Additional officers responded and retrained the man.
At police headquarters, 3.5 grams of cocaine fell out of Ward's clothing, police said.
Ward, of 1417 Scott St., on state parole for burglary and receiving stolen property, was automatically committed to the Lycoming County Prison on a parole violation. He was arraigned Tuesday before District Judge James Carn on charges of aggravated assault against police officers, resisting arrest, possession with intent to deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine and possession of marijuana. He was recommitted to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
