Gustavo Gonzalez connected with a routine single to score Mitch Walding in the second inning of Wednesday's game against Mahoning Valley.
Little did Gonzalez know that hit would drive in the game's decisive run as Williamsport blanked Mahoning Valley, 6-0, for its second consecutive win.
Although the Crosscutter's later runs proved to be moot, with the combination of Ulises Joaquin, Steven Inch and Luis Gonzalez scattering seven hits without giving up a run, the offensive surged to score a run in four straight innings.
Chace Numata homered with two outs in the sixth, completing a 2-4 day at the plate. Yan Olmo, who went 1 for 2, added a triple, while Tyler Green and Cameron Perkins each doubled.
The 6-0 victory was exactly how the Crosscutters wanted to open their six-game road trip, which ends with a two-game set at Batavia.
