Admit reality. Then aggressively fight back.
That's the best anti-crime medicine we know of, and the National Night Out walks in the city this past week are a pretty good starting point.
The hope is that the walks and the anti-crime attitude they embody will serve as an impetus to increase the full-time presence against crime in Williamsport. There are 12 Neighborhood Crime Watch programs in the city and organizers want to add four more.
Would increased anti-crime presence have prevented the wave of arsons that hit the Newberry section of the city in the spring or the fatal shooting in Flanigan Park in June? There are never guarantees against such tragedies.
But we're certain it could only help.
Now is the time for citizens not just in Williamsport but also in neighboring communities to support their crimefighters. It's a never-ending struggle, fighting crime. But the best way to stamp out the presence of crime is with unity and numbers. Be part of the solution.
