False assumptions

August 13, 2012
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

A recent letter referred to a lack of critical thinking when we consider claims made by politicians. The same can be said about claims made by anyone.

Critical thinking and its twin objectivity are obviously lacking in our discourse these days. Both can be defined as comparing claims to the facts and evidence of reality.

These important intellectual processes should be emphasized at all levels of our educational system, but instead we have liberal scholars denying the very existence of objective reality.

Without critical thinking and objectivity, people can be led to false assumptions, which plays right into the hands of self serving politicians and others that rely upon gullibility.
