In an effort to both honor former students and move its organization forward, the Williamsport Area School District Alumni Association Board of Directors is seeking nominations for its first Distinguished Alumni Award.
The fledgling organization, which launched last spring, plans to present the award during a pre-game event at the high school's Homecoming football game on Oct. 5, 2012.
"This will become a major component of our organization because it ties in directly with our mission to reconnect with those who have moved on from the district," said Greg Hayes, the association's executive director. "WAHS has produced outstanding graduates through the years who have achieved or done great things, either in their field of work or through public service. This is one way to honor them for what they've accomplished and to kind of bring them back to where it began."
For those wishing to nominate an individual, either living or deceased, the Alumni Association has created a nomination form that can be found at the Alumni Office, 2780 W. Fourth St., or downloaded from its website at www.wasd.org/alumni.
Nomination forms must be submitted on or before Sept. 4. A committee of Alumni Association board members will review and announce the award winner by Sept. 21.
