Chris Plocinski wanted to started his own barber shop and to have a business for his son when he hangs up his clippers.
Thus was born Plocinski's Barber Shop East, a new business at 217 Broad St., Montoursville.
I worked with my brother for five years," said Plocinski as he busied himself cutting the hair of a customer. "I kind of always wanted a place of my own."

Plocinski, who opened two weeks ago, thinks he found a good spot for his shop along Montoursville's main artery just west of the downtown business district.
Plenty of traffic passes along Broad Street on any given day, and he's got lots of room for parking in the rear.

The shop has three chairs, but he has hopes of eventually expanding.
At $8 a haircut, Plocinski feels it's a safe bet he's offering customers a bargain.
"We don't want to charge a whole lot," he said. "God will bless us with customers. If you keep a steady flow of business you'll do all right."
Plocinski became a barber after working at other jobs over the years.
After living in Florida for a time, he moved back home to Williamsport, attended barber school, then worked with his brother cutting hair.
What he likes best about being a barber, he said, is talking to the customers.
"There's so many different personalities," he laughed.
Plocinski feels there's numerous types of hair-styling places and salons, but still plenty of people who just want to get their hair cut at a barber shop.
He said he hasn't done a lot of advertising, but is relying on word of mouth to spread the word about his shop.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and 7 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Saturday.
