Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Helen V. Morgan, of Pottstown, widow of Harry L. Morgan, died Aug. 10, 2012, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Amidst some tears and a little laughter, she died at home surrounded by her family.

Helen was born in Muncy Valley, Pa. on April 19, 1931, to Howard and Mabel (Minnier) Herring. She grew up in the quaint town of Picture Rocks and went on to become a Registered Nurse after graduating from Harrisburg Nursing School. She worked for many years at PMMC, subsequently retiring from the Southeastern Veteran's Home in 1993. She enjoyed trips to the casino, shopping in area craft and gift shops, word puzzles, reading and eating out. Called Nanny or Nana, Helen enjoyed listening to stories from her 10 grandchildren and watching them move into adulthood, along with seeing her five great-grandchildren become their own people.

She is survived by a sister, Jane Montgomery, of Montoursville, and four daughters, who will miss her dearly, Cheryl Burdan, wife of J. Michael, of Pottstown, Tamara Naftal, wife of Robert, of Spring City, Michelle Thompson, of Hatboro, and Lisa Morgan, partner of Willie Fink, of Kimberton. Grandchildren include Brian, Danielle, Jaimie and Mikayla Thompson; Joshua and Steven Burdan; Marissa and Vincent Naftal; Trey Williams and Nicaya Murray. She also has many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of her Life will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Catagnus Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 711 N. Franklin St., Pottstown.

In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged for either Meals on Wheels, 1976 E. High St. #203, Pottstown, PA 19464, or Caring Hospice, 400 Commerce Dr. Ste. C, Fort Washington, PA 19034.
