It is with much amazement that I read about the fact they are now going to do a survey of the Route 220 corridor between Williamsport and Jersey Shore. I have written numerous articles for this column, and have been critical in the past of both what has been done and what has not been done to make this road safer.
Spending that kind of money for a survey at this point is almost humorous. So this write up is going to be based on a comedians famous punch line.
Get in your car and travel this road back and forth between 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.. Here's your survey!
Set your cruise control for exactly what the posted speed limit is and count the cars that pass you. Here's your survey.
Now set your cruise control for 5 miles an hour over the speed limit and count the cars that still pass you. Here's your survey.
Set up a camera at the South Pine Run Road intersection and count the number of vehicles that still turn left toward Jersey Shore. Here's your survey.
Actually, sometimes the dirty tire tracks on the road is all you need to see they are still turning left. Here's your survey.
Close off all the crossovers? What about all the drive ways and entrances on the right side of the road? Here's your survey.
I am also amazed by the fact that someone has now said people are driving this road like an Interstate. What do you expect. Coming from Williamsport or Jersey Shore they have just left a 4 lane divided Interstate ready highway. Here's your survey.
As someone who drives this twice a day, it frustrates me to believe that no matter what is done, until all drivers obey the rules, and until this highway is better patrolled and enforced, you can do all you want, make all the surveys you want, nothing is going to work. I can't wait to read what this great survey will discover.
There's your survey and it only took a few sentences, and did not cost a thing.
