Ralph E. Zeigler Sr.

Ralph E. Zeigler Sr., 92, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at his home following a brief illness.

Ralph and his wife, the former Elda C. Emigh, observed their 70th wedding anniversary on March 1, 2012.

Ralph was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an aviation (Metalsmith) first class on the fleet air wing-6, ninth naval district.

Ralph was a 60-year member of John F. Laedlein Lodge 707 and Scottish Rite, a member of American Legion Post 1 Williamsport and the Lycoming County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees.

Ralph was an active member of the Civil Defense in his early years. He was a Bi-County Office of the Aging PEER Graduate (Pennsylvania Empowered Expert Resident), and recipient of the 2009 Lycoming/Clinton Counties PEER Award.

Ralph worked for Glenn L. Martin Co., Baltimore from 1939 to 1940, was a sheet metal instructor at the former Williamsport Technical Institute from 1940 to 1962 and was a vocational advisor for the Pennsylvania Department of Education, Harrisburg, from 1962 to 1982, retiring in 1982.

Ralph was a graduate of the Altoona High School and Pennsylvania State University.

Born Sept. 28, 1919, in Altoona, he was the son of Oscar B. and Anna J. Rudisill Zeigler.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Ralph E., Jr. (Lou Ann B.), of South Williamsport; daughters, Gloria Z. (Charles F. III) Greevy and Barbara Z. (Robert W. III) McCullough, both of Williamsport; a niece, Doris J. (Larry) Kraft, of Warren; grandchildren, Charles F. "Chad" (Alysha Sides) Greevy IV, Megan Greevy, Bethany L. McCullough (fiance Brent Bondura), Laura A. McCullough, Peter B. Zeigler and Andrew B. Zeigler; great-granddaughter, Charley Elizabeth Greevy; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 142 Market St., with the Rev. Kenneth R. Elkin officiating. There will be a visitation at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers. Those desiring to give memorial contributions in his name may send them to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Williamsport, PA 17701.
