The vast majority of the Republicans in Washington have vociferously pointed out as often as they could that the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as 'Obamacare', would be a "job killing, deficit-ballooning government takeover of the healthcare system." They have stated without the benefit of any empirical evidence to support their claims that the ACA would destroy the very fabric of our free market, mandate hating system of good ole American market based freedoms. Interesting. For all of the things that conservatives portend gloom over that are not contained within the law and all of the time Washington Democrats spend trying to explain what the law is and is not, has anyone taken the time to simply look at any of the actual healthcare provisions that will have a major positive effect on women alone?
Consider: 47 million women will have access to the preventive services they need. Women will now have access to life-saving preventive care, such as mammograms and contraception, without paying any more out of their own pockets. To that end, beginning the first plan year after August 1, 2012, most private health insurance plans will cover additional women's preventive services without requiring them to pay any extra out of pocket costs.
As a husband and father with four daughters all I can say to the ACA is: Thanks!
