M. Joan Taylor, 82, a resident of Montgomery, Pa., passed away on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2012, in the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit. Born in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, Pa., on Monday, April 14, 1930, she was the stepdaughter and daughter of the late Thomas J. and Naomi M. (Shaffer) Welshans.
Joan attended the Clinton-Montgomery High School. She was a homemaker and had been employed for 20 years as a nurse's aide by the Muncy Valley Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.
Joan was a member of the former Christ Lutheran Church at Montgomery where she was a former Sunday School teacher and member of the Alter Guild. Joan was a Girl Scout leader for over 25 years and a former member of the Montgomery Lioness Club. She was a member of the Montgomery Historical Society. Joan enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk, ballroom dancing, the Antiques Road Show and anything sports related. She was an avid Penn State fan and a fan of Elvis, with whom she shared the same death date. Joan was a dedicated caregiver for numerous area cancer patients. She was a member of her family's Relay for Life Team, the Cancer Crushers. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her family.

Joan is survived by five children, Tom G. and Donna Taylor, Elimsport; Pam and Bruce Mowrey, Montgomery; Debbie and Lloyd Salvatori, Montgomery; Lisa Gorsline and Mike Morris, Corpus Christi, Texas; Jackie and Don Murray, Montgomery; eight grandchildren, Tara Bartlett; Keith Taylor; Corey Mowrey; Kevin Mowrey; Kyle Mowrey; Danelle Bower; Bethany Bower; Narissa Gorsline; four great-grandchildren, Brein Behrer; Corrine Bartlett; Brielle Mowrey; Isaiah Mowrey and one great-great-grandson, Conner Behrer. Joan was preceded in death by two sons, Christopher and Kevin Taylor.
A memorial service will be conducted from the Elimsport United Methodist Church, 16145 State Route 44 Highway, Elimsport, Pa., at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, with Pastor Michael Hill officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the The Montgomery Historical Society, West Houston Avenue, Montgomery, PA 17752 or to the Montgomery Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, 24 Montgomery St., Montgomery, PA 17752 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
